Jami Foote Mnemic devices to help 6th graders remember World History

I am looking for Mnemic techniques to help students remember important facts in World History. (This is my first year teaching World History in 6th grade). I would like to hang some of the "sayings" around my room and introduce them to students...does anyone have any Mnemic techniques they would like to share? It can be almost anything regarding World History and map skills. Thank you in advance for your wonderful ideas! Jami Continue

Kari Armstrong Buddy Books

I teach third grade, and I plan on using this lesson next year with my creative writing unit. This lesson can be adapted to fit any grade level. Buddy Books. Each third grader will be assigned a first grader to interview, finding out about their family, birthday, friends, pets, and favorite things. Using this information, the third graders will write a story, using their first grader as the main character and the information from the interview as the basis for the story. The stories will be pub… Continue

Kat Bailey Look not just at what you teach, but where it will be applied.

http://www.wikinomics.com/blog/ Just a quick jot for those who keep up with my other Multimedia blog--what we teach our students must have an application eventually to their life at work or home. We will be moulding how our students adapt to the workforce in not just our subject matter, but the manner in which we teach them. Wikinomics by Tapscott and Williams is the number one read that I ask all faculty and friends to read--and now I am asking you my peers to read. Why? What's in it for me?… Continue

Lauren Drake reflecting...

I am almost finished with observations..hooray. I was taking notes yesterday and making sure I was reflecting over the bullets on my reflection log and I realized something about myself. Unfortunately what I realized doesn't have much of a spot on my reflection log or paper- so I'm sticking it here. I won't lie- I am scared to be a teacher. It's a huge task and responsibility. I go into my observation school where I see students who aren't engaged, don't care, and it isn't the teacher's fault (a… Continue

Lauren Drake worth considering...

A few weeks ago I read an article about an initiative going on in New Hampshire, of course now I can't find it. But I did find one from the Christian Science Monitor. Basically New Hampshire and 2 other states are going to start testing in the sophomore year. The results of the scores determine what the student is "qualified" to do. this means then gives the student options about how he wished to spend his next 2 years of hig… Continue

Roxanne` Ferrell Father In Law, Archie

Hey guys, Just thought I would let ya'll know that my father in law is doing better. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, he had a heart attack on Thursday. We've been with him at the hospital since then. He was moved from Sky line to Vanderbilt on Friday and has to have open heart surgery on Tuesday. As far as I know I will be in class and go straight to hospital afterwards to be with him. He is feeling much better now and is stable condition, but the Dr.'s consider him extremely hi… Continue

Joseph L. Hall All About the Blog

I joined TeacherPop last year and have been delinquent in maintaining this blog site. I am still somewhat new to blogging. There were no computers in schools when I graduated high school, so this is a post secondary education plug-in for my revamped technology mind. I can say that technology in education has revolutionized education. I teach writing and public speaking at Draughons Junior College, and have been frequently surprised how many of my ESL students use technology in their acquisition… Continue

Alexandra Sutherland So

I have flag football practice today and I have to finish a paper. Dear God I hate character analysis. Seriously I just get so tired of trying to find all the deeper meanings. Half the time theyre just random, out of the blue guesses that my professors seem to like. Seriously guys STUDENTS loathe character analysis. If they have to do it. Give them more than that. 4 pages of nothing but motivation, development, and description on a character in a short story can be too much to ask out of a teenag… Continue

Alexandra Sutherland Sometimes

Sometimes I just want to run on back home. Its weird being on m own. Ain't it strange? You spend your whole life trying to get away and break free but now all you want is home. I miss my mother like crazy. I need to get me a car badly. I think if I could I would go home once during the week and then on weekends. I think Id feel better, stronger somehow. I guess its more of a feeling that I don't really belong here. When you try to make friends really hard but no one seems to see you are even the… Continue
